Loans repaid from your salary or pension

With a salary or pension assignment loan (cessione del quinto), the instalment is taken straight from your payslip or pension, for up to 10 years. Please read this before you apply:

  • The instalment can be up to one fifth of your net monthly salary or pension, so your take-home pay falls for the whole term.
  • The term can be up to 120 months. Paying off early is allowed, but check the costs in the SECCI first.
  • Life and job-loss insurance is compulsory. Check who pays for it and whether its cost is included in the APR.
  • For pensioners, INPS sets maximum rates for loans under its convention. Compare the APR you are offered with them.
  • If you already struggle with repayments, a longer loan can lower the instalment but raise the total cost. Consider free debt advice first.

Before you borrow

  • Borrow only what you need and can repay. Work out the instalment against your monthly budget.
  • Compare the APR (TAEG), not just the interest rate (TAN): the APR includes most costs.
  • Read the SECCI (standard European consumer credit information) the lender must give you before you sign.
  • You have 14 days to withdraw from a consumer credit agreement after signing it.
  • If you have several debts, a consolidation loan can lower the monthly instalment but often costs more in total.
